We’re quickly approaching one of the most rewarding Saturdays of the year here at Big Sandy Lodge & Resort: the annual Memorial Day weekend Run for the Lake 5K. Hundreds of runners gather every year along the peaceful shores of Big Sandy Lake to raise money for a good cause, earn prizes, and accomplish personal bests. The run (or walk) starts and finishes at Big Sandy Lodge & Resort, one of the premier Northern Minnesota lodges, so you’ll always be a short stroll from a cold bath, a healthy meal, and an ultra-comfortable bed.
All proceeds from the Run for the Lake 5K go to the Big Sandy Lake Association. This annual run promotes the protection and improvement of the area’s water quality as well as shoreline management. If you browse through their active water-quality projects, you’ll see that they’re working to prevent runoff of pollutants and the spread of aquatic invasive species.
The 5K Course
Running a 5K, or approximately 3.1 miles, is great for seasoned runners and beginners alike. Challenge yourself to top your previous run time, or walk throughout the course for a leisurely fun run. All but a short stretch of the course is flat blacktop, so all ages are more-than-welcome to join in on the fun! The course features tranquil Big Sandy Lake views, lush forestry, colorful plant life, and chatty birds.
Prizes and Divisions
Big Sandy Lodge & Resort is not only hosting the event but is also the main sponsor. We’re one of the only Northern Minnesota lodges to hold such an event, and we’re under 100 miles from the Twin Cities! There are eight divisions with prizes awarded to the top overall male and female as well as first, second, and third place within each division. Save $10 by registering before May 6; registering early also guarantees you a tee-shirt.
Relaxing Northern Minnesota Lodges
Big Sandy Lodge & Resort offers runners a relaxing, affordable, and rustic true cabin escape.
